FRBs and radio astronomy

FRBs, otherwise known as Fast Radio Bursts, are strange, unknown, pulses of radio waves, at least two of which have been recorded as having a steady pattern to them. The sources? It's been speculated that the sources could be black holes, pulsars, or magnetars. At least one of the sources is supposedly from a relatively small area, which makes the explanation of a black hole as possibly problematic and perhaps even impossible. Just about all of them, however, have come from far beyond the Milky Way galaxy, which is our own. There's an extremely high chance that in the near future perhaps, we might detect plenty of such bursts from the Milky Way, however previous ones have likely been out of the frequency range of recent radio instruments. That being said, with technology's fast pace constantly improving, I want to see regular novice users and amateur astronomers to be able to afford such instruments. To me, personally I think that it'd be a new type of tinkering, as (for example) 3d printing is a thing in itself, radio astronomy- if it ever becomes widely available to the public more easily, could open a new world of possibilities. I'd sure be interested in owning my own radio equipment and tuning it in various ways!
